چکیده

Subject review The model of maintenance is an algorithm of activities which aims at achieving the condition of a technical system that can ensure fulfilling the goals as well as predicting possible equipment breakdowns. Researches point out that corrective maintenance is associated with high cost and considerable time consumption. On the other side there are method of predictive maintenance, which presents a possibility to detect and predict a technical system failure and method of preventive maintenance, which performs the set tasks on technically correct systems in order to avoid failures. The paper accentuates and reviews the position and significance of the technology used for an early prediction of machinery wear by means of one out of a series of analyses of lubricant oils known as ferrography.

Preventative Maintenance and Failure Analysis of Aircraft Components

More than 10 years ago, the three major causes of failures in the Israel Air Force were: maintenance (-16% of failures), manufacturing (~14%), and design (-12%). While fatigue (~34%) and overload (~23%) were the two major failure mechanisms, more than 10% of failures were related to corrosion mechanisms. These include stress corrosion cracking, corrosion fatigue, localized corrosion, hot corros...

Application of Multivariate Control Charts for Condition Based Maintenance

Condition monitoring is the foundation of a condition based maintenance (CBM). To relate the information obtained from the condition monitoring to the actual state of the system, it is usually required a stochastic model. On the other hand, considering the interactions and similarities that exist between CBM and statistical process control (SPC), the integrated models for CBM and SPC have been ...

Ferrographic Analysis of Wear in Human Joints

Ferrography is a technique for analysing wear by means of the magnetic separation of wear particles. To evaluate its application in human joints, the results of the ferrographic analysis of saline washings of symptomatic human knees were compared with the results of the arthroscopic examination of the same knees. Ferrography was found to be an extremely sensitive monitor of articular erosion, w...
